Faculty-Led:

Summer Interdisciplinary Ethnography Field School in Mauritius
Mauritius, Africa
This short-term program involves students in interdisciplinary research that combines laboratory and field methods, engages them in challenging and diverse learning environments, exposes them to global cultural diversity, and provides opportunities for immersive and experiential learning. The course offered is interdisciplinary and coursework is related to Cultural Anthropology, Social Psychology, Cognitive Science, Religious Studies, and Area Studies (Africa and Indian Ocean). Students will earn ANTH 3090 credit for Directed Field Research in Anthropology. 

Summer in Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv, Israel
Spend 4 weeks living in the “city that never sleeps” while taking PSYC 2209 with UConn professor, Dr. Etan Markus. Students will take Learning & Memory with Professor Markus and select a second course taught at Tel Aviv University. Outside of class, students will enjoy organized cultural and social activities as well as field trips in addition to free time exploring the city.

Summer Neuroscience in Salamanca
Salamanca, Spain
Students will enroll in one neuroscience course taught by a UConn professor, and one Spanish course during this 5-week program. Psychology students have the option to take Drugs & Behavior (PSYC 2201H) with Dr. Salamone, or Physiological Psychology (PSYC 2200) with Dr. Chrobak to earn major credit. In addition to building community with UConn students, the program will have a cohort of students from Johns Hopkins University, making this a great opportunity to network with students with similar interests.

Summer Psychology in Florence
Florence, Italy
Busy students will appreciate this short-term program option that takes place during the month of May, leaving the rest of the summer open for other commitments. Led by UConn Stamford Professor Leslie Burton, students will earn PSYC 2101 credit for the course, Introduction to Multicultural Psychology, which also fulfills General Education Content Area 4 requirement: Diversity & Multiculturalism. Outside of class time, students will have weekends free for travel and independent excursions.

Boasting one of the largest centers for psychology in the UK, this exchange features social science courses including in psychology. The University is located in the capital city of Wales and schedules afternoons free on Wednesdays so students can participate in one of the many extracurricular activities open to international and local students alike. Some past psychology courses students have taken include Decision Making, Biological Psychology and Individual Difference, Forensic Psychology: Violence & Crime, and Memory Processes & Memory Disorders.

Lima, Peru
Study in the largest city in Peru with courses taught in English or Spanish depending on proficiency level. Students will have the option to take psychology courses in the College of Humanities and participate in a variety of cultural programs and academic field trips throughout the semester organized by the University. A USIL student ambassador will be assigned to each exchange student upon arrival to help with the adjustment to campus and become integrated with local students.

Wollongong University
Wollongong New South Wales, Australia
Wollongong is Australia’s ninth largest city; small enough to learn to navigate in a semester yet large enough to provide plenty of activity. This thriving cosmopolitan city is becoming known for its combination of laidback lifestyle, natural beauty, culture and entertainment. Subjects are taught as a mixture of lectures, tutorials, laboratories and seminars with significant emphasis placed on written assessment. An array of psychology courses are available. Some past titles include Cognition & Perception, Biological Psychology & Learning, Psychology of Abnormality and Assessment & Intervention.

This wildly affordable semester or academic year program has a lot to offer. Students will study at Thailand’s top university and participate in cultural field trips in and out of the city. The psychology courses are plentiful and include titles such as Theories of Personality, Introduction to Industrial & Organizational Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology, Prosocial & Antisocial Behavior and many more.
