The University of Connecticut has decided to cancel all Spring 2021 Experiential Global Learning programs that require international travel. Instead, UConn will offer virtual Experiential Global Learning programs for that term.
The U.S. Department of State provides Travel Advisories for all countries, the majority of which caution against travel on account of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Many countries around the world have not announced when foreign nationals may legally enter. Flights to many countries are restricted. Several universities and programs already have cancelled their spring programs to host students.
We know that this is extremely disappointing news and that you may have questions about a specific program or situation. If you had an active Spring 2021 application, your Experiential Global Learning Advisor will reach out to you soon to discuss future options with you. If you are an international student currently in your home country, your Advisor may assist you with alternative options.
Instead, we recommend that you consider adding a UConn virtual internship to your Spring 2021 courses or, if possible, enroll in online courses through one of our partner programs. Experiential Global Learning will host an online event in October to provide further information about virtual internship opportunities. If you have any questions about whether a given program offers a virtual option, please contact your Experiential Global Learning Advisor. Our partners are still deciding whether they can offer such an option, so please bear with us as we confirm those details.
If you had an active Spring 2021 application, Experiential Global Learning will withdraw your application automatically as of November 1, 2020, unless by that date you decide to switch your application to a virtual program. If you already have submitted the $25 application fee and choose to cancel, we will refund that fee at that time. You don’t need to take any further actions to cancel your application now.
You also should contact your faculty or academic advisor soon to determine how this cancellation affects your plan of study and ensure that you are prepared to enroll in courses for the Spring 2021 term.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
