Waseda University Summer School

Waseda University was founded in 1882 by Shigenobu Okuma with the aim of fostering contemporary Japanese leaders. It has since developed into a comprehensive university with more than 50,000 students, 13 undergraduate schools, 21 graduate schools, and other research and affiliated institutes. Almost 4,500 international students attend Waseda from approximately 90 different countries. The pedagogy and spirit embraced through Waseda’s tradition and pride with a flexible and innovative mindset have ensured that Waseda stands firm at the forefront of Japanese education. Waseda University is at the forefront of many Japanese universities in its aim to promote the internationalization of education and research, and it is actively involved in international exchange. Japan is famous for being an economic superpower and a technological giant, but at the same time it is also steeped in tradition and culture that have developed over its long history.
