About

As a Global Student Mentor, you'll inspire and guide fellow students through their study abroad prep! Share your experiences, offer support, and help them navigate their exciting journey. You'll also gain valuable leadership experience and practical professional skills. Plus, you’ll earn course credit!  Join us and make a difference globally! 

 

As a Global Student Mentor, you will: 

  • Conduct EGL 101 information sessions 
  • Staff weekly EGL drop in hours  
  • Help students navigate programs and application details 
  • Present your experiences to various groups on campus 
  • Help plan and participate in events such as the Fall Fair, Showcases, Pre-Departure Orientations, and reentry workshops for students like you who have studied abroad 
  • Other duties as assigned 
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Complete a successful study abroad experience as a UConn student 
  • Have a passion for study abroad 
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills 
  • Be in good academic standing 
Requirements

Requirements

  • Time commitment: 
    • Two semesters (Spring & Fall) 
    • At least 6 work hours per week 
    • Attend weekly GSM staff meetings/class time (Wednesday’s 9 am – 10 am in the Spring). 

      Global Student Mentors must be able to: 

      • Advise students in an accurate and professional manner 
      • Attend scheduled training sessions and group meetings 
      • Work in Experiential Global Learning during regular work hours (generally 5-6 hours per week; scheduling and hours worked can be flexible) 
      • Commit to a variety of duties including regular office hours, presentations, special events, and training sessions, some of which may occur during the evening and on weekends 
      • Participate in EGL website and media campaigns 
      • Mentor and train future GSM cohort
