Math & Engineering Exploratory

As a student exploring Math and Engineering, you can:

  • Participate in summer programs to fulfill core, professional, general education or elective requirements.
  • The best type of program for students looking into taking core courses for math or engineering is exchange programs.
  • Consider sophomore year or summer as the best times to go abroad.
  • Participate in hands-on learning activities as part of a course, including research abroad, or through extracurricular activities.
  • Enrich your academic experience by participating in classroom discussions abroad with diverse student populations.
  • Select a faculty-led, exchange, affiliated or short-term program option.
  • Develop international contacts to benefit your professional career.

When planning an experience abroad, be sure to keep in mind your electives, any extra credits you may be able to use to your advantage, as well as current and upcoming terms in your course of study. For students who have a strict course sequence to follow each semester, a summer or winter program might be a good option.

Due to the Engineering plans of study having a lot of sequential courses, it is very important to start planning your experience abroad early. Students are advised to not go abroad Spring of their 3rd year or during their 4th year due to design course requirement. Fall of 3rd year is may not be recommended due to the course sequencing required in preparation for Junior design and course availability depending upon what major you decide upon.

Experiential Global Learning (EGL) encourages students to talk to their academic advisor to go over what courses to take while abroad before scheduling an appointment with your EGL advisor.

When planning an experience abroad, be sure to keep in mind your electives, any extra credits you may be able to use to your advantage, as well as current and upcoming terms in your course of study.
